Leslie Hoover & Frank Youngman were speakers at the October 7, 2025 Cadillac-Wexford Public Library Community Lecture Series held in the Sound Garden. The history of the Sound Garden and future plans were discussed. Sample carvings from the original sculpture, which inspired the name of the garden, were on hand.

Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. District 5 Conference and Flower Show in Manistee MI, 09/12/2015
Five members of the Cadillac Garden Club attended the District 5 meeting (Elsa Skipper, Sally Matthews, Marcia Murray, Leslie Hoover and Nancy Lapinski). In  the judged flower show portion of the program, Nancy received a Second Place  ribbon for her photograph of sunflowers, from a "bird's eye view". Leslie Hoover was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cadillac Garden Club and Michigan Garden Clubs. The day was filled with educational opportunities, sharing of floral designs and horticulture, and networking with 18 other local garden clubs in Northern Michigan.
Cadillac Festival of the Arts: Cadillac Garden Club Tent
Free daffodil bulbs were distributed, fresh floral arrangements from members' gardens were won by eleven people throughout the day and Ikebana vases with floral "frogs" were sold. We enjoyed seeing friends and meeting new friends.

August 12, 2024 Program and Business Meeting "on the go"

For our August meeting, the Club was on the go to three different gardens. First we visited Nancy Brown's garden followed by a visit to "A Little Lavender" where owner, Nancy Lapinski, showed us her farm with a shop and discussed the growing of lavender. Her shop is open daily 9 AM-6 PM at 4270 E. 46 Rd, Cadillac, MI. Our last stop was at the home of Kathy Simon. We visited her garden and had our business meeting too. Nancy and Kathy are club members. It was a wonderful social time and way to appreciate the different aspects of gardening.

July 19 & 20, 2024: Cadillac Festival of the Arts

Cadillac Garden Club members greeted festival attendees at a booth on Friday, July 19, while they made centerpieces for the Cadillac Arts Council's Art and UnWined event in the evening using home grown flowers. On Saturday Club members did three demonstrations of floral design.

Centerpieces were sold after the event. Thank you to everyone who made this a fun and successful event, and to those who stopped by to meet the Cadillac Garden Club members.

May 20, 2023 Sound Garden Clean-Up and Laying of the Mulch: Thank you to club members and community volunteers who did a great job in spite of the misty weather. Thanks to the city of Cadillac for the hot chocolate and donut holes. Enjoy pictures of those at work.

Loda Lake Wildflower Sanctuary: Field Trip on May 15, 2023 with botanist, Carolyn Henne
In the early 1930s, the Michigan Garden Clubs Inc.  found land that they asked the National Forest Service to designate as a wildflower sanctuary. It took until 1950 to seal the deal and the area (south of Baldwin) has been a protected sanctuary since then. It is part of the Huron-Manistee National Forest. Eight Cadillac Club Members & guests joined the Forest Service botanist for a very informative walk. It is worth the drive and is an every changing environment.

Holiday Home Tour, Dec. 3, 2022

Something new and excited in the Sound Garden, July 27, 2022: In addition to new mid-summer blooms, a new musical instrument, The Fungi Phone, has been added to the Sound Garden by the Garden Club with support from the Cadillac Arts Council.

July 16, 2022 Flower Show sponsored by Cadillac Garden Club:
The floral arrangements and horticulture specimens entered into the 2022 Flower Show went beyond expectations. Even though the show was small, every entry was worthy and the judges were VERY impressed with the Cadillac talent. The floral arrangements were creative, artistic, followed the theme well, intriguing  and were just plain beautiful. The horticulture specimens illustrated the effort, time and love that gardeners have for their plants.
Spring 2022 in the Sound Garden
Huge shout out to community volunteers, Trevor, Angie and Tammy who joined Garden Club members, Kathy, Denise, Sandy, Diane, Kay, Elsa and Sue on June 11 at the Sound Garden for maintenance work. The group got a lot accomplished in 2 hours and their hard work is appreciated. All of those who visit the garden thank you!

Join Us!

Membership is open to all men and women interested in the areas of horticulture, conservation, floral, and landscape design.  Opportunities within the Club include working in the community gardens, fundraising activities, program planning, and regular meeting hostess duties.  Meetings are held at the First Presbyterian Church of Cadillac, 221 E. Harris, Cadillac. If you have questions, use the contact form on our website.

Maybe you love gardening, flowers or environmental advocacy but do not have the time to join the Cadillac Garden Club. There are several ways you can support the Club and its work without being a member:
  1. Volunteer to work alongside Club members to weed, plant, trim, or spread mulch at the Sound Garden on Chestnut St., Cadillac (just east of Consumers Energy, 330 Chestnut St) along the Clam River. Members spend time there weekly in spring, summer and fall and help is always needed! We also have a standing "clean-up" day the 2nd Saturday of the month, June through October. Check dates under EVENTS. Individuals, families, schools, businesses, churches and organizations can help. The Sound Garden is a community treasure that has visitors in all seasons so help us out one time or on a recurring  basis (like one day a month). Contact Kathy at (231) 878-0492 or (231) 775-7762 to schedule a time to join us.
  2. Attend a monthly meeting that looks interesting to you. The upcoming agenda with program topics and information is listed under EVENTS. Most meetings/programs are free and guests are welcome. If this is not true it will be listed in the EVENTS posting. Workshops where attendees complete a flower related project usually have a small materials charge.
  3. Donate to the Cadillac Garden Club. We do the primary planning and maintenance of the Sound Garden and need funds to purchase plants, trees, flowers, mulch, musical items, and sculptures. Funds are also used to educate members and the community on topics related to our mission. Donations can be made to the Cadillac Garden Club by sending a check to CGC Treasurer, 4907 E. 46 Rd., Cadillac MI 49601. We also write grants to secure funds when we can.
  4. Attend the annual Cadillac Garden Club Holiday Home Tour the first Saturday of December. Information for the upcoming tour is posted under EVENTS. This is our only fundraising event.
